Great Points Tim. Since root was introduced, and more recently a custom recovery, the cool factor has risen to Droid1 levels. As you say, the only thing missing from this beast is LTE. I am also considering a Bionic for a couple of reasons.

My physical keyboard seems to be sticking a lot lately. i don't think it has anything to do with root or freezing of bloatware apps, as no one else has really reported this. It could just be that I have faulty hardware.

Also, the recent Verizon data throttling announcement clearly affects me, as I meet the criteria for their top 5% of data users. Upgrading to a 4G phone would cure my throttling woes while I get to keep unlimited data.

If you pick up the Bionic, drop by and leave your impressions!

Well I'm back as promised to update my feelings for the phone. It seems like the dang phone was healing itself...LoL. Phone started running very smooth for me with long battery life (possibly from changing settings?) and now I couldn't be happier. Wait I take that back, if they could unlock bootloader I'd be in heaven. I do have the phone rooted now and I am using Titanium Backup Pro to freeze the bloatware and backup my apps and data to drop-box (Way COOL!) But I am now just as happy or happier than I was with the original droid. Phone is very snappy, unbelievably stable and tough (about 6 drops now). I like how its display is bigger than the first Droid. I would definitely buy it again ..IF.. 4g lte wasn't soon going to be ready in my area. Already eyeing a Bionic and maybe giving my GF a very nice Droid 3. Hope this helps someone make a better informed decision .

Very well written review. I'd just like to add a few things. As an OG droid owner just getting the droid 3, I must say I'm not impressed at all by the bloated apps/software. I have been running this phone for 4 hours now and have had about 6 different crashes/failures. I have rebooted, removed battery, etc and still been having problems. Love the new keyboard and screen. If I keep having problems I am going back to old faithful Droid... I will be back to comment more later.

I really liked the "afternoon" drive video. I have always wanted to do something like that with my camera, I have taken some awesome photos while driving but don't do that anymore cause I almost ran off the side of the hwy.
